Audrey Tautou

Audrey Tautou was born in Beaumont in the French city of Puy-de Domme on the 9th of August, 1976. She was the oldest child of four. Her parents, a dentist and a teacher recognised and supported her love of theater and acting at an early age, which overcame her initial ambition to be a primatologist due to her passion for monkeys. Her meteoric rise as an actor in the young age was quick and marked by early success. In 1998 after her studies, she took part in an French program for scouting talent on TV called Jeunes Premiers sponsored by Canal+ and won Best Young Actress at the Beziers Festival of Young Actors prior to beginning the journey to become an actor. Tautou, who attended in the Institut Catholique de Paris in Paris in her youth and studied there at young age she has since renounced her Catholic childhood. Now, she declares herself to be non-Catholic. In addition to acting, she pursued modelling and was the model of L'Oreal Mont Blanc as well as Chanel. Apart from her acting profession she also has an interest in photography. The actress recently showed some photos at the Arles Film Festival, under the title Superficial. Her photography largely focuses on celebrity and fame, and then turns her camera to the journalists who scrutinised her when she exploded to stardom in the film Amelie and self-portraits. Audrey Tautou became a star and gained international recognition with her debut role as Amelie Poulain in the film Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie. Amelie gained international attention because of its box-office success. It also received praise at awards ceremonies across the globe. It is currently the most successful French film on the market in US. The success of this movie led Tautou to a variety of roles, ranging from British dramas as Dirty Pretty Things by Stephen Knight and Jean Pierre Jeunet to Hollywood's The Da Vinci Code with Tom Hanks.
